El Nido del Tigre is Coast to Coast Adventures’ hideaway on one of the most spectacular rivers in Costa Rica - the Pacuare. It is only accessible by river or by trail.
Every effort is made to maintain this area of 40 acres of rainforest in its natural state while offering a temporary home to our guests who have the unique experience of observing the wonders of the forest from the comfort of our camp.
El Nido del Tigre takes its name from the giant patches of ginger plants that carpet the floor of the main area of the camp. When the ginger reaches a certain height it falls over creating flattened areas in the shape of a tiger’s nest - hence its name, which translates to “the nest of the tiger”. To Coast to Coast Adventures this is an evolving dream which started at the end of 1996. It has seen the harmony between rainforest and tourism that has captured the imagination of the local people, many of whom we thank for their assistance on our continuing journey to develop the dream.
From the center of the nest, trails radiate throughout the forest and along the river. The evolution of the camp has brought the introduction of many innovative ideas for activities and amusement during our guests’ stay. Activities include hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and tree climbing / rappelling. We also have an open area for those who like the odd game of ball or Frisbee. If all this is too much after a day on the river, seek out one of our quiet reading areas, set yourself down with a refreshing drink and just ‘be’ for a while.
Spacious tents on fixed platforms boarder the edge of the river. The camp is fully functional with its own supply of pure spring water, shower and sanitary facilities.
The well planned and thought out kitchen and dining areas make entertaining a pleasure. All meals are provided with dinner served underneath the stars and to the sound of the Pacuare River as it journeys to the Caribbean.
El Nido del Tigre is the perfect setting for either an overnight rest or a slightly longer stay to break your journey when traveling down one of the most exciting and beautiful rivers in Costa Rica.
We take considerable pride in the development of the area and have a few, dedicated staff who look after this very special place on the banks of the river. There are many varied itineraries catering for all desires which incorporate rafting on the Pacuare and we look forward to having the opportunity of welcoming you and showing you the beauty of the rainforest, the river and El Nido del Tigre.
